  • Design an outdoor living room

  • Improve existing stairs

  • Create a space at the top of the hill to enjoy the beautiful city views

Designer's Notes

  • This project was to design a drought-tolerant front yard with succulents and an emphasis on color and shapes to accentuate the residence. We re-designed the front brick entrance for a more graphic appeal including the use of pots and plant material.

  • Design a child-friendly and warm family-friendly back yard at the base of a steep hillside including a shaded patio area with a fire pit.

  • Convert a steep Ivy-covered hillside to a CA Native landscape and re-doing a staircase. The staircase leads up the steep back hillside, terraced and planted with stabilizing natives. Plants of different root depths provide the best stabilization. CA Native plants will also attract birds, hummingbirds, and butterflies for all to enjoy.

  • Level the ground at the top of the property and lay down a decomposed granite base for a shaded patio and fire pit to enjoy the incredible city views over a glass of wine.

Client Review

We are in love with our front and backyard that Catherine designed. She helped us create a space that our whole family can enjoy and was practically on call through the entire process. She’s very detailed and found a solution to all of our challenges. She also had beautiful suggestions for plants. We have already recommended her to our friends and neighbors and some have driven by to take photos of our house as well as stop to ask for her info.
