Designer's Notes
Design an outdoor space to live in comfortably year-round for the home owner that includes a dining area, a convivial fire pit area, a master bedroom terrace, and a secluded space to enjoy city views.
Design a mixture of wood, concrete, white stucco, river rocks, gravel, and plant materials to create contemporary textures with a natural color palette.
Seamlessly join a wood deck with a concrete paver terrace and a meandering path through a California and Australian fusion drought-tolerant garden.
While the lower spaces are designed for the comfort of the homeowner, the garden is designed not only for aesthetics but to attract butterflies, hummingbirds, and birds.

“We first met with Catherine soon after we bought our house in 2015 to discuss how to develop the barren, unloved backyard and how to rework the outdated front yard. Catherine quickly came up with a plan that incorporated all the ideas we had and then some. She worked closely with the contractor hired for the hardscape and paid enormous attention to every detail along the way. In addition to designing Catherine personally picked out all the trees and plants we had decided on, going to nurseries up and down the coast to find the best specimens. She was present for all the plantings so that everything would be sited exactly right. Her team also designed lighting so that the garden looks beautiful at night as well.
